Man wins chainsaw carving world championship

WAPWALLOPEN, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- A Luzerne County man is celebrating a world championship -- in chainsaw carving!

Dennis Beach has been handcrafting these wooden creations for 35 years!

The Wapwallopen man travels all over the world to show off his skills, but he compared this competition in Germany to the "Olympics" of chainsaw carving.

Dennis decided to challenge himself during the five-and-a-half day contest by carving an elk being attacked by a wolf, and that risk paid off.

Dennis said in addition to the trophy, he also won a cash prize, and his name was added to the Chainsaw Carving Hall of Fame.

If you would like to see Dennis in action, he will be attending several fairs in our area this summer.
