Luzerne County Transportation Authority offering free rides to veterans

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- In honor of Veterans Day, the Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) is offering vets free rides.

Veterans boarding an LCTA bus just have to show the driver military ID card or a certificate of discharge. The driver will give them a commemorative pin, which will serve as their bus pass for the entire day.

"I got on the bus, was going to pay, he asked if I was a vet. I said, 'yes I am,' he said, 'here, here's a button for you and your ride today and tomorrow is free,'" says army veteran Ronie Lee Thompson.

"Veterans provide a tremendous service to the country, and we should all appreciate that and honor that. It's just something small we can do," says Norm Gavlik, executive director of LCTA.

The LCTA also honored their drivers who are veterans with new uniform hats, recognizing their service.
