Local 8-year-old makes slime to raise money for cancer research

MINERSVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- When an 8-year-old's relative was diagnosed with cancer, she wanted to do something to help, so she turned to crafting.

She puts on her apron, and this 8-year-old entrepreneur is ready for business! Addy Ricard has a passion for making nat pop slime -- and all kinds of it!

"Butter slime, foam slime, original slime, fluffy slime," said Addy Ricard.

She walks me through the process. You start with a glue base. Then add food coloring. We picked blue. Add in some foam beads. And start mixing! Then it's time for your activator, which is laundry detergent. And you've got yourself some slime!

Addy works out of her kitchen in Minersville. A few days ago she decided to start selling slime, but the money isn't for her.

"I want to donate money to cancer so I can help get a cure and stuff," said Addy.

In October, Addy's great grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer.

"We're like really close, and I love her so much, and I feel bad that she has lung cancer," said Addy.

Addy learned how to make slime about a year ago watching YouTube videos. Her mom set up a Facebook page where you can purchase slime for 50 cents, one dollar and two dollars.

All proceeds go the American Cancer Society.

"So she [great grandmother] can get better," said Addy. "And to help other people."
