I-Team Follow: Landlord Begins Work Rental Property

Man Grateful for the I-Team's Involvement

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) An I-Team investigation into a problem property is getting results. On Wednesday, Eyewitness News first told you about the Scranton property on Eyewitness News at 5.   Shortly after our report aired the landlord began to make repairs to the home. Our Lead I- Team Reporter Andy Mehalshick has the latest

Daryl Barrett showed us the work that was done by his landlord on his South Lincoln Avenue home on Wednesday night and today..

The landlord did sealing work and dropped off a new door.

Barrett called the I-Team claiming the landlord had not responded to his concerns about the home.

Water leaking into the basement and there are major water leaks from the roof. He fears this will cause his second floor ceiling to collapse.

."My main concern is not for me. There are two young children next door. I don't want to see them get sick from anything."

Scranton officials say it is a major issue tracking down rental properties The city require all landlords to obtain a permit for the rental property and each unit may have to be inspected..

An annual permit for each rental property is $150.00.  Annual registration for each unit- $50

Penalties: 6 month suspension of permit fines from $100 to $500

A city inspector told the I-Team the city had no record of the owner of the  property where Barrett lives having a permit.

Barrett says he's convinced that the only reason repairs are being made now is because the I-Team  got involved.

"It seem to be starting to help which I'm grateful"  he told Andy Mehalshick on Thursday.

Our attempts to talk with the landlord to get his side of the story have been unsuccessful..but we'll keep trying..
