I-Team Exclusive: V.A. Official Apologizes To Veteran After Incident Involving V.A. Employee

60 year old Thomas Kepp from McAdoo, Schuylkill County said he could not believe what he was hearing. A call from a V.A. Medical Center employee about rescheduling his doctor's appointment that left a little too much information on his voice mail. The V.A. caller left the message which at first asked Kepp to return the call to reset his appointment. The V.A. employee thought she had hung up and kept talking---Kepp's answering machine kept recording. The caller said " This is the V.A Medical Center calling. Your appointment for July11th has been cancelled as per your request. Please call us back to reschedule thank you---- They're going to keep calling him. I'm only calling him once. Downtown we just throw it out."...The message also includes some other off color comments not related to Kepp. Kepp told the I-Team, "I felt disrespected. It's like throwing dirt on us veterans. We deserve better. Suppose my answering machine wasn't working or I didn't get the call I would still be waiting for an appointment." Jason Cave, the Acting Public Affairs Officer at the V.A. Medical Center near Wilkes-Barre told the I-team, "Based on what we heard today there were some things in there that we're not consistent with the way we provide care here. We really appreciate you bringing it to or attention." Cave added, "The Chief of our health Administration Services reached out to the Veteran personally to apologize and to ensure he received tely care and appropriate care and follow-up. We are investigating what happened." Kepp said he had no problem with the care he has been receiving at the V.A. and said it was very good. He said he waned to get the word about what happened to him to make sure it doesn't happen to any other veteran.
