I-Team: 82 Year Old Man Assaulted By Teens

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)  Someone attacked an 82-year-old man in Luzerne County and now a community wants answers. what makes this all the more shocking is the beating happened on the victim's porch In broad day light.

Neighbors say young people are behind the crime and nobody is doing anything about it.. so they called in the I-Team  Lead Investigator Andy Mehalshick.has the story.

82 year old Robert Condrick says he was attacked on the front porch of his Lincoln Street home Wednesday afternoon..

He told the was taking pictures of dozens of teenager that were blocking the street.. He wanted to give the photos to the police..a group of teens threw rocks at him. .

Four of them came onto his porch and demanded to know what he was doing.. So he told them. Then he was punched.

Condrick explained "He turned and he punched me right here in the face. my glasses were up here. thank God he didn't break my false teeth or my glasses. I said something to him and somebody hit me again in the face. "

His 76 year old wife Judy was in the house and witnessed the attack. "I couldn't believe he was being violated he's an 82 year old man. he was in his right and was on his own porch then these ????????? came up here after him like that who do they think they are."

The teenagers took his camera.. Condrick ran after them trying to get it back..and that's when the situation got even more intense..

 )"So I pulled my gun. I won't shoot nobody I pulled my gun out and they ran like hell." Said Condrick

Hazleton police arrived a few minutes later. Condrick and his neighbors say the teenagers walk on Lincoln Street on their way home from the nearby Hazleton Area High School. On most days they say the teens are out of control..

Mark Katchmarik of Hazleton told Eyewitness News  "It's terrible it's terrible these kids don't believe in laws." 

Hazleton police say Mr. Condrick does have a concealed weapons permit but urge people not to take the law into their own hands.

This is the latest incident involving large groups of teenagers in that same general area..neighbors claim the police and school district officials are not doing enough to stop the trouble.  Hazleton Police Chief Jerry Speziale tells Eyewitness News that officers carried out a saturation patrol in that Lincoln Street neighborhood this afternoon. They cited people for trespassing and disorderly conduct. the chief says they are working several leads in the Condrick case.
