Merry Christmas! I hope Santa was good to you. And no matter what you have on tap today, make sure you take some time to enjoy the simple things in life. One tradition that my family has been doing for years that makes the whole house smell great and gives us that warm cozy feeling is to make a big batch of what we call Santa's coffee. It's really good, and we make it in a slow cooker so we can sip it all day long. Here's what we do: we start off by making 8 cups of our everyday coffee (now, that can be regular or decaf) and we pour it into a slow cooker. We add some brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon. A great trick that we discovered is to mix them together before adding them to the coffee so the cinnamon doesn't float on top. To that we add some chocolate syrup and half-and-half (that'll make it creamy). Give it a good stir, and let it simmer for a bit. That's it. And if you want to make this even more holiday special, add a little chocolate or coffee liqueur. Top each mug with some whipped cream and a sprinkling of cinnamon and sip away. Rumor has it that Mrs. Claus fills Santa's thermos with this before he leaves in his sleigh. That's why we call it “Santa's Coffee.” And like always, the recipe is online.
