"Help Wanted": Struggle to hire poll workers

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- The November election is three weeks from Tuesday, but some communities in our area are struggling to staff the polling places.

From Your Local Election Headquarters, the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections reached out on Facebook to try to get people to work the polls.

But it wasn't enough to fill those positions, especially in Kingston Township and Exeter.

Poll workers are required to spend the entire Election Day at their assigned location in addition to a three-hour training class.

Clerks are paid $100, but for a 15-hour stretch, that comes out to less than minimum wage.

The director told Eyewitness News that municipal elections are the toughest to staff.

There's normally not as much interest in those local races compared to a Presidential election.
