The conflict in Iraq has triggered higher gas prices and a renewed debate on energy independence here at home. In this week's "Generations of Energy," The energy department is announcing plans to allocate four billion dollars for projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The funding will support renewable energy advancements, and efforts to reduce use of biofuels. But some lawmakers say energy independence begins with a more immediate means of fuel.

Rep. Steve womack (R-AR) says "It starts by building the Keystone Pipeline. Put thousands of Americans to work, about our energy motion more and transmission cost energy, safely, to consumers across the land."

A state department study estimates the keystone pipeline would create more than 42-thousand direct and indirect jobs. While house lawmakers passed a bill approving the pipeline without the president's signature, the proposal has stalled in the senate.
