Friends Remember Two Young Hockey Players

Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County - A hockey game in Luzerne County on Saturday honored  the memory of two young players. Former Junior Pen players hit the ice at the Coal Street Ice Rink in Wilkes-Barre in memory of Brian Madry and Gary Lukasiewicz. 

Brian Madry, a 16-year-old Mountain Top boy was killed in a 2011 car crash. The other honoree  Gary Lukasiewicz, an 18-year- old Taylor man died from cancer in 2012 the day after his senior prom.

The parents of both young men are grateful for the honor.  Brian’s father Dan Madry said "They played together. They won a championship together and they were great friends."

"I'm thrilled that they're keeping their memories alive for Gary and for Brian." added Carole Madry,Brian’s Mother

Cheryl Lukasiewicz, Gary's Mother, told Eyewitness News "I can't ask for anything more. I mean Gary would be why are they doing that, but for us it will be a nice memorial."

Plaques dedicated to Brian and Gary will be permanently displayed at the Coal Street Ice Rink in Wilkes-Barre.
