Former High School Athlete Arrested for Stroud Mall Assault, Robbery

Two 18-year-old men are behind bars

STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - A former high-school star athlete is one of the suspects now charged in a violent assault and robbery. Police say two 18-year-old men beat up a stranger outside the Stroud Mall, then kidnaped the victim at gunpoint in his own car.

This crime happened on Tuesday, March 20th. Authorities say surveillance, social media and the community helped in their investigation.

Police say Isaiah Woody thought he was meeting a female he knew from school at the Stroud Mall.

While walking through the parking deck with her, Woody was allegedly tackled and punched by two men he didn't know. They demanded weed and money.

"It's a shame the way society is now," says Jim Lanza of Snydersville.

Investigators say Woody was set up by the girl and her boyfriend, 18-year-old Jamaal Brome. He was a star running back on Stroudsburg High School's football team.

Police say another 18-year-old, Willie Saunders, was also involved.

"I lived here for a long time, and it's like there's a lot of crime going on more and more," says Kevin Handelong of Stroudsburg.

According to court papers, the suspects forced the victim into his own car and drove to a nearby ATM. Saunders and Brome allegedly made the victim give his PIN to withdraw cash.

ATM surveillance captured Saunders in the act. You can also see Brome sitting in the back seat.

Police say the footage helped crack this case. After posting it on social media, several anonymous tips poured in.

"I guess the law worked out and they caught them, which is a good thing," Lanza explains.

Authorities say the victim was in and out of consciousness, and later woke up alone in his vehicle. He was treated at the hospital.

Shoppers at the Stroud Mall say this is troubling and it's important to be vigilant, even in public places like this.

"Make sure you know your surroundings," Handelong adds.

Willie Saunders and Jamaal Brome are both behind bars in Monroe County, unable to post $50,000 dollars bail each.

The female has not been charged at this time. Police say this is an on-going investigation.

Eyewitness News reached out to the victim, but we have not received a response.
