For 2nd month, PA unemployment numbers rise

PA jobless higher than national average

HARRISBURG (WBRE/WYOU) - For the second consecutive month, Pennsylvania's unemployment rate has increased, bringing the jobless rate to five percent.

The May report from the state's Department of Labor & Industry saw unemployment claims climb one-tenth of a percent to five percent, well above the national average of 4.3 percent.

Six of the eleven supersectors declined from april with the largest drop in the construction industry which shed about 4,300 jobs. There were gains in the leisure and hospitality sectors but not enough to offset the other losses.
