Farewell to "Doc"

Dr. Anthony Mussari dead at 75

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- He was known simply as "Doc" -- a man who dedicated his life to teaching others in and out of the classroom. Longtime King's College Professor Dr. Tony Mussari lost his battle on Wednesday with a rare brain disease.

In the time esteemed Mass Communications Professor Dr. Anthony Mussari walked this earth, he helped us learn about it and each other. "As I'm standing here I could hear the water lapping up against the dike," he said in an Eyewitness News interview in 2012 for the
documentary "Agnes Flood: 40 years later" which, thanks in part to his contributions, earned Eyewitness News a Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters award.

A documentary maker himself and author of several books, Dr. Mussari wrote "Appointment with Disaster" which chronicled the devastation the Susquehanna River inflicted on the Wyoming Valley in 1972.

Just last year, Eyewitness News interviewed him, again, about the Agnes flood from his Dallas home. His home is where he and his wife, Kitch, created their own television series "Windsor Park Stories" which celebrated the human spirit. A smart, sincere and compassionate man, Dr. Mussari's legacy will live on in the minds he shaped and the lives he touched.

Dr. Mussari was 75. A funeral mass for him will be celebrated Saturday morning at St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, 134 S. Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
