Elk Lodge Hoop Shoot

(WBRE/WYOU) Dallas, Luzerne County

People took a shot today at building a stronger community. It was part of the the Elks national Hoop Shoot free throw program. Students ages 8 through 13 in the Wilkes-Barre, Scranton area were invited to come to Dallas High School to try and make as many free throws as they can in 25 tries. Winners of each age group of the competition today will move on to the district Hoop Shoot. If they win at the district level, they continue to state, regional and then to the national level.

Organizers say it gets the kids and the parents involved in making their neighborhood a better place to live. The event is made possible by a grant from the Elks National Foundation, which awards grants to local Elks Lodges to help strengthen their communities. Winners at the national level get their names inscribed in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
