Driver sentenced for hit-and-run crash in Wyoming County

Wreck severely injured bicyclist

TUNKHANNOCK, WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - A Wyoming County woman who admitted hitting a bicyclist and leaving the scene in Tunkhannock last year is going to state prison.

Kecia Magdin of Mehoopany was sentenced Wednesday morning to spend up to three years in jail.

As soon as her sentence was handed down, Magdin was rushed out of the Wyoming County Courthouse in handcuffs to a waiting police vehicle.

"I think she's remorseful but I think she made a very bad decision," Wyoming County District Attorney Jeff Mitchell said.

In April 2017, police say Magdin was driving under the influence of alcohol and a prescribed anti-depressant when she hit and severely injured a bicyclist on Bridge Street in Tunkhannock.

The victim, Andrew Razawich, was in critical condition after the wreck.

He suffered a traumatic brain injury, 23 bone fractures and a punctured lung among many other injuries.

An avid outdoorsman at the time of the crash, Razawich's recovery is still ongoing.

"He's a very accomplished young man who worked very hard his whole life. He was an engineer and this was a tragic, tragic incident for him and I hope he can heal and move on," Mitchell said.

Razawich and his family were in court Wednesday.

They say it's a true miracle he is still alive and they are glad justice is now being served.

Immediately after the crash, Kecia Magdin left the scene. She told investigators she thought she hit a deer.

Prosecutors hope her sentence of between 14 months and three years in jail can act as a deterrent to someone else.

"I think it was a fair sentencing. She had a prior DUI. The victim suffered very serious injuries because of what happened to him," Mitchell said.

Kecia Magdin pleaded guilty to two charges, aggravated assault by vehicle and driving under the influence.
