Dozens Gather In Scranton To Protest Planned Parenthood

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - Opponents of planned parenthood held rallies on Saturday all across the country.

One of the demonstrations calling for defending the organization was held in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

About 50 people took to Courthouse Square in Scranton to give a voice to the unborn.

Dr. Michael O'Donnell is a Scranton physician and is calling for the federal government to stop funding to planned parenthood. The organization provides women's health services and abortions across the country.

Donald Trump promised to defund the organization when he was a candidate and his election has given renewed hope to anti abortion activists.

O'Donnell says abortion is not healthcare and believes there should be no exceptions.

The protest comes as momentum picks up within the abortion debate. However, not everyone supports defunding planned parenthood. New mom Sarah Pollakusky believes in a woman's right to choose. "If the pregnancy was caused by force and they don't want to keep the baby...they don't want to live with it...they shouldn't have to live with that" Pollakusky says.

Planned Parenthood has vowed to fight threats to defund it.
