DEP: Fell Township Coal Fire Still Burning

- State officials say a coal fire burning in Lackawanna County's up-valley since December is still going.

The fire is located off Jefferson Street in Fell Township.

The Department of Environmental Protection says crews have already dug down 120 feet trying to put the fire out with no luck.

Crews are currently using nearly two million gallons of water everyday from the Lackawanna River to put out the fire.

Officials believe it may take at least another month and another million dollars to help put out the coal fire in Lackawanna County.
