Defrocked United Methodist Pastor to Speak at Bucknell

A former United Methodist Pastor who was defrocked after  after he officiated his son's gay marriage is speaking at Bucknell University tonight.
Reverend Frank Schaefer told Eyewitness News he will explain why he had to choose between his job and his son
Reverend Shaefer says he will be talking about a message of love and acceptance
Schaefer has been traveling across the country to explain why he feels it's important for the church to embrace the LGBT community

The talk, "A Father's Love: Rev. Frank Schaefer, the United Methodist Church, and an Impossible Choice," is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Office of Chaplains and Religious Life at Bucknell.
Schaefer was a United Methodist pastor from Lebanon, Pa., who was recently put through a church trial on charges that he officiated at a same-gender wedding ceremony for his son five years ago in Massachusetts.

He was found guilty of violating the United Methodist Church's Book of Discipline's ban on performing such ceremonies and given 30 days in which to respond to a requirement that he promise never to officiate at such a ceremony again. He declined to do so and has lost his ministerial credentials in the United Methodist Church.
