Dancer With Autism Taps His Way To The Top

TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- A teenager from Lackawanna County is proof that a disability doesn't have to get in the way of your dreams.

16-year-old Jake Mushak from West Scranton has autism, but that's not stopping him from becoming an award-winning dancer.

Jake wasn't always accepted in the dance community.  His mom says discouraging comments from former teachers nearly caused her son to stop pursuing his passion.

That's when they discovered Arts in Movement Academy of Dance in Taylor, and the instructors gave Jake the second chance he needed.

Jake told Eyewitness News he wants to go to college to learn the art of choreography and maybe even become a dance teacher one day.

If you would like to see Jake in action, you can attend a dance recital on June 24th at 4:30 p.m. at The Theater at North in Scranton.
