Cult connection could be to blame for deadly shooting

TOBYHANNA, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - A bizarre twist in a homicide case in the Poconos, Eyewitness News first told you about Saturday morning.

Our continuing coverage concerns a deadly shooting in Tobyhanna in the 600 block of Laurel Drive.  Pocono Mountain Regional Police tell Eyewitness News they arrested 42-year-old Barbara Rogers.  They say she was the one who called 911 early Saturday morning to report she shot her 32-year-old boyfriend, Stephen Mineo.

Authorities found Mineo dead inside the couple's apartment and say he was shot once in the forehead at close range around 2:30 am.

Police say after questioning Rogers, there are indications the shooting could have cult connection.

"She identified that the deceased was having online issues with a cult and he wanted to be killed and requested she do it," says Lt. Steven Williams.

Lt. Williams says it appears the couple were survivalists, fearing the world would come to an end.  A forensic autopsy on Mineo is scheduled for Monday.

Rogers is jailed on a county of criminal homicide and faces a hearing set for July 26th in Monroe County.
