Credit And Debit Card Fraud Expanding In Northeastern Pennsylvania

- Hazle Township, Luzerne County-State, Federal and Local Authorities say they have leads in a credit and debit card fraud scam that is sweeping Northeastern Pennsylvania--At least 200 people have been victimized in the scam that has been centered in the Greater Hazleton area, but is now expanding to Schuylkill and Carbon Counties.

Peter Marsicano from Hazle Township told the I-Team, "I was hit twice-- first in March and then just two weeks ago--I lost $500 dollars--the bank reimbursed me but I am so fearful of using my debit card--I'm tired of this."

Investigators think the thieves are somehow breaching wifi systems of businesses to obtain credit and debit card numbers and then selling those numbers to people across the country--  Butler Township Police Chief Brian Sabatini sais 30 township residents have come forward with theft reports--Sabatini said "We are working with the Secret Service and State Police trying to make arrests we advise people to keep close eyes on all their accounts."
