Community Reaction to Murder Arrest

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) A 31 year old woman is locked up tonight, accused of killing her one-time boyfriend in Susquehanna County.

Troopers believe the deadly shooting happened last Tuesday but the victim's body was only discovered yesterday.

Eyewitness News reporter Eric Deabill   in Gibson with more.

As news of the arrest of Cassandra Mercincavage spread through the normally quiet community of Thompson, many say they know the 31 year old.

James Delaney is the mayor and he owned a flower shop in town.

"She has stopped into the store a few times and I could tell there was something wrong, there was definitely something wrong with her the way she acted and stuff" Said James Delaney, Mayor of Thompson,

State police believe Mercincavage used a 22-caliber rifle to shoot her one time boyfriend, Robert Hubal, inside his home on Potter Hill Road early Tuesday morning.

He was shot twice in the head and once in the side.

Troopers are still investigating what happened but say it appears the couple's five year relationship may have been ending.
"They had been living together but recently Cassandra was asked the leave the property and move out" said Trooper Mark Keyes, PA State Police,

Mercincavage refused to answer questions after her arraignment.

The victim's body was only discovered Sunday morning after family members went to check on Robert Hubal.

Neighbors are now crediting state police with making a quick arrest.

"I'm glad that they were able to do something that quickly and find the person responsible -- well, if it's the person responsible" said Mark Fallon, a neighbor.

After shooting Hubal, troopers believe the suspect drove off with his pick up truck.

That is how they tracked her to Lackawanna county where she was arrested

"There was no issue with taking her into custody once she was located. She was cooperative with police and came with them to the state police Barracks in Dunmore" said Troopers Keyes.
