Case Closed in Murder-For-Hire, Teen Sexual Assault

A police officer, a hit man, and a cheating wife

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - A police officer, a hit man, and a cheating wife; it's a bizarre case that has gained national attention.

On Tuesday, a Monroe County couple was sentenced for crimes the judge compares to 'a Lifetime TV movie'.

Because Keith and Robin Transue of Mount Pocono posted bail shortly after their arrests, they walked freely into court. But, one left in handcuffs.

Robin Transue, 43, is now an inmate who will serve 1 1/2 to 4 years in state prison. Investigators say she tried hiring a hit man to kill her police officer and borough councilman husband, Keith Transue.

"It's a very disturbing tale," says Mike Rakaczewski, Assistant District Attorney.

Robin also admits to having sex with a 14-year-old boy in 2010. Police say Keith found out and tried covering it up.

On Tuesday, a judge sentenced him to a probation term.

"He not only fails to report it, but goes to the minor and the minors' father and encourages them not to go to the police," Rakaczewski adds.

As a police officer and a school resource officer, Keith was required to report abuse. Prosecutors say, instead, he held the information over Robin's head.

"That, basically, if she ever divorces him or leaves him, he can use that as a police officer and she's gunna go to jail," Rakaczewski explains.

Authorities say Robin felt trapped and started plotting Keith's murder.

In court, prosecutors played an audio clip between Robin and the hit man, who was secretly working with police. In the recording, Robin talks about orchestrating a 'hunting accident'.

"It was detailed, she came up with a lot of different plans," Rakaczewski says.

Last year the Transue's entered guilty pleas in their cases, but prosecutors don't think they've fully accepted responsibility.

"In regards to Keith's case, Keith was a police officer. He is held to a higher standard and by his actions, he brings dishonor on the whole profession," Rakaczewski believes.

According to his defense attorney, Keith Transue retired from the Bushkill Township Police Department in Northampton County, and he is no longer a school resource officer.

Transue is also a Mount Pocono Borough Councilman. He will serve on council while serving probation. According to Mount Pocono's mayor, even if council wanted to remove Transue, the solicitor says they don't have the ability to.

The Transue's were ordered to not have contact with the sexual assault victim, who is now an adult.
