One year later, Renee has kept that promise, but it hasn't been easy. The theater must make the switch to digital, an upgrade the owners can't afford.
With their supporters behind them, Renee and her family made the decision to turn the theater into a non-profit organization.
Renee announced the plans during a dedication ceremony in honor of her late grandfather, Vincent DiAugustine, on what would have been his 90th birthday.
The Berwick Area United Way is supporting the theater during the transition period. CEO Ginny Crake said she didn't hesitate to help.
Renee said her grandfather would be proud that the theater is back in the hands of the people who cherish it.
If you want to help, checks can be made payable to the Berwick Theater, and you can mail those donations to the Berwick Area United Way: 139 E 2nd St, Berwick, PA 18603.
