East Stroudsburg, Monroe County – A Monroe County body shop owner whose business was destroyed by fire about a week and a half ago is gradually getting back to work.

Friends are helping Jim Weiss repair his repair shop. He said, "I deeply appreciate them being here and helping out at this time. You know who your friends are in this kind of situation."

Jim Weiss Auto Body and Towing caught fire last month. Flames destroyed the garage and office. Jim took some time to take care of insurance issues and got back to working on cars Tuesday. "We are still open. We are doing what we can. We obviously can't do the volume,” he said.

A large part of Jim's garage is still full of burnt out car shells and all sorts of junk but he told us several friends are letting him use space in their garages. He smiled, "Most of the people in this business are competitors but also friends and they help out each other."

He hopes to start working in one of his own garages soon. Friends are power washing the walls and hauling away trash. Family members are helping him run a temporary office out of an RV. "It's gonna be all right. It's not like a spacious office but it will do the trick for now,” he said.

If all goes well, Jim will have much of his shop back up and running in two months. "We hope to be back better than ever,” he said.

A State Police Fire Marshal has not yet released the official cause of the fire.
