Arson Suspect Arrested

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - A suspect has been detained in connection with a fire that was started at a home in Hazleton Friday night.

Hazleton Police and Fire responded to 825 N. Church Street on a report of a house fire.

A resident tipped Hazleton Police that an elderly woman was an occupant of the building. Police then forced entry into the home and were able to retrieve the woman from her home.

Information from the scene suggested that the fire was suspicious in nature and the Hazleton Detective Division began an investigation along with the Hazleton Fire Department's Arson investigator.

Brock Barcasky, who was also a resident, was detained after evidence taken from the scene suggested the fire was started intentionally.

While on route to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton for a medical evaluation, Barcasky became violent, kicking the interior doors of the police car he was in and banging his head off the partition.

When he arrived at Lehigh Valley Hospital, he kicked the passenger door open and fought with hospital staff and officers, kicking and biting them before he was restrained. An officer on scene sustained a minor injury during the altercation.

Barcasky is charged with Arson, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault and Disorderly Conduct.
