Dia2007-03-21-1174523287.jpgDia Wallace anchors the weekend evening editions of WBRE News.

Dia was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She grew up in Scottsdale and attended Arizona State University.

Dia started her career in broadcast journalism right out of college. Her first job was at an NBC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona (KNPX-TV) in the Special Projects/Documentary Unit. She won an Emmy Award for a documentary titled "The Hunger Next Door".

Dia then went on to the White House in Washington D.C under President George Bush where she worked in the Old Executive Office Building in the Communications Department. There she researched facts and helped White House speech writers assemble the President's speeches... Dia says don’t be too impressed she saw more of "Millie" the dog perusing the halls than the President himself...but she did get some great autographed pictures and speeches! Dia then went to work on Capitol Hill in the US Senate. Her duties included production and recording of video and radio actualities for Senators' constituents.

Dia was on the move again when she started at KTSM-TV in El Paso, Texas as a reporter. The television station sat a stone's throw from the Mexican border and since Dia is bilingual in Spanish she was soon promoted to the investigative crime reporter and left no stone unturned. Dia won a Best Reporting Award from the El Paso Press Club and several AP awards while at KTSM.

In 1994, Dia made her way to Pennsylvania and joined WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh. She produced an award winning documentary on gangs that made TV history when it aired simultaneously on three networks and PBS.

Dia joined WBRE-TV in 1996 as reporter. She was promoted to weekend anchor then eventually in 1999 to the WBRE morning show. Dia fell in love in Northeastern PA and married a man from Tunkhannock. He an airline pilot for Delta... they travel often to their family homes in Hawaii and Phoenix plus enjoy recreational flying. During the week, Dia is busy with her four children (all under age 6) and her student pilots' license... on the weekends you will find her anchoring the WBRE evening news show. Dia says the position is perfect, allowing her to combine her two loves, being a mommy and being a T.V. reporter.

Dia is always looking for good news stories, if you have any suggestions, please e-mail them to her at dwallace@nbga.net.
