The Schuylkill County Fair Begins this week! July 28 through August 2rd- Schuylkill County Fair will officially open the doors to the 2014 edition of the Schuylkill County Fair at 4PM on Monday, July 28. The opening ceremonies will be a little different this year with a combination of the old and new as the fair features “Treasure the Memories of Our Roots.” Schuylkill County Fair has been rooted in the community for 31 years

*The Fifth Annual Rocker's Roll Motorcycle and Music Festival main event takes place Saturday, July 26, from 9am to 6pm at Robert Conroy Park (Pittston Tomato Festival Grounds) in Pittston. A celebration of Mods, Rockers and rock'n'roll includes a vintage, classic, cafe racer motorcycle and scooter show, contests, prizes, a motorcycle raffle and more! * Three area galleries are teaming up for a one-night only pop-up event at the historic Pajama Factory in Williamsport.
Richard Rinehart of Bucknell's Samek Art Museum, Casey Gleghorn and John Yogodzinski of Williamsport's Converge Gallery and Dan Olivetti from Susquehanna University's Lore Degenstein Gallery, will present Ignite on Saturday, July 26, from 8 to 11 p.m.
The event will be held in the Clearstory (former Public Art Academy) space at the Pajama Factory, located at 1307 Park Ave. The pop-up exhibition will include an exploration of video art, installations, music, and provocative poster art.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Julie Covello, AKA DJ Shakey, a part of New York City's DJ elite who has spun at virtually every metro area nightclub that contributes to the culture.
How did the accidental firing of a rifle lead to one of the bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary War? National Park Service Ranger Tim Oset will explain the Battle of Minisink in an easy guided walk at Sullivan County's Minisink Battlefield Park on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10:30am. Minisink Battleground Park is located on Sullivan County Route 168 about one mile northeast of NYS Route 97 at, Minisink Ford. The turn for Route 168 is just south of the east end of the Roebling Aqueduct, across the Delaware River from Lackawaxen, PA.

*The Keystone College Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory will begin its summer program on Monday, July 7 at 8:30 p.m. and will continue each Monday and Wednesday night through Wednesday, July 30 “Experiences at McDonald Observatory: A Professional Observing Run” by Professor Douglas O’Neal, Ph.D., on July 28 and 30.
Open to the public and free of charge, the sessions at the observatory will be held regardless of sky conditions and cancelled only by the threat of severe weather. For more information on the summer series contact Professor Cupillari at 945-8402.
*The 41st season of the Wilkes-Barre Farmers Market will be open on Public Square at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014. The market, held every Thursday through November 20th, will bring together many community groups through special programming and events.
* The free Wheelchair Engineers program at the Columbia Mall near
Bloomsburg, with its handicapped-accessible model train layouts, will
be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and every Saturday at the Sears
end of the mall.
The Bloomsburg University Archives’ latest exhibit, Treasures from the Archives Featuring Bloomsburg University, 1983-2014, contains many items, including photographs and artifacts, evoking the university’s progress since the July 1, 1983, establishment of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The exhibit will be on display, free of charge, through Sept. 12 in Andruss Library, third floor.
* The Luzerne County Historical Society currently has twenty historic quilts on display at their Museum at 69 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre. The quilts, from the Society’s collections, include many patterns, types and sizes from the nineteenth and early twentieth century. These handmade quilts have been collected by the Society over the years.
Also on display is the exhibit She Rolled Up Her Sleeves: Luzerne County’s Women at Work which focuses on the unsung heroines of our history—the women who worked hard but never get any credit. Located at 69 South Franklin Street (behind the Osterhout Library) the Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 2:00 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for children, and free for Historical Society members. Both exhibits will remain on display through August 31, 2014.
*The Downtown Shenandoah Open Air Farm Market is in full swing from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Fridays through November. Regional farmers and growers set up shop along the east side of the first block of South Main Street and the south side of the first block of East Centre Street near the more than century-old Bolich & Burke building.
They offer fruits, vegetables, various plants/flowers and other fare.
The event, the oldest of its kind in the region, is sponsored by the Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce.
