Sumatran Tiger Project

Wallenpaupack Area Middle School - Mrs. Hansen’s 6th grade students decided to make their research assignment a little more meaningful this year.  They decided to pursue an active role in a great cause to help save the Sumatran Tiger of Indonesia, which was a nationwide contest sponsored by the Philadelphia Zoo.  They created an informational website on their findings to share with others.  Mrs. Hansen’s students were happy to hear that they were picked as finalist and then went on to win 3rd place overall.  With their winnings, the students decided to donate $100.00 to the Dessin Animal Shelter in the spirit of helping animals locally.  For more information on the plight of the Sumatran Tiger and palm oil destruction, check out the students’ website at
