Wilkes University’s Zebra Communications, the student-run public relations agency at Wilkes, will host “An Old Hollywood Gala” in the lobby of the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center, on the corner of South and River Streets, on Thursday, April 10 from 7 to 10 P.M. The fundraising event will benefit the Embrace a Child in Tanzania campaign, to raise money to support four children who have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS in Karagwe, Tanzania.
The public is invited. Tickets for the Gala will be $10 in advance or at the door on the night of the event.
The Gala is Old Hollywood-themed. If they wish, participants are invited to attend in costume as their favorite Hollywood personality from any era. The event will include carving stations, pasta, and hors d’oeuvres donated by a generous community businessperson. Desserts will be donated by The Westmoreland Club of Wilkes-Barre. With the purchase of the $10 ticket, Gala goers will receive a raffle ticket to be entered to win a $50 gift card to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre.
Wilkes University student, John Scalese, will be providing the evening’s music from your favorite Hollywood movies, classic and contemporary. Vocalist Macey McGuire and guitarist Brandon Schmeer will also perform.
Participants at the Gala will be welcomed to a photo booth, donated by Knot Just Any Day Photography. In addition, Michele Geiser of BePa Studio will be displaying and selling selected photos from her collection, with a portion of the proceeds going to Embrace a Child in Tanzania.
The event is intended to increase awareness of HIV/AIDS at global and local levels. This is the third year that Zebra Communications has sponsored the orphaned children in Karagwe, Tanzania, providing funding for housing, food, school and books.
For those who cannot attend the event but are interested in helping, tax-deductible donations are gladly accepted. Please contact Anthony Bartoli at Anthony.email@example.com or 570-313-2959.
