Apparently lots of local residents are in the mood for love since advance ticket sales for the production are reported to be "brisk", at least according to Producer, Art Lieberman.
"I realize this is only our third play," says Lieberman "but our pre-play reservations have never been so steady, so early. Perhaps it's the weather or the economy or maybe it's Valentine's Day, but advance ticket sales are at a record pace. Most of our local audiences have waited until the last minute to purchase tickets in the past, but not this time."
"Same Time" stars Nick Buckman as George, an accountant from New Jersey, who is in Northern California to do the taxes of a friend - who meets Doris, played by Davena McCabe, a housewife from Oakland, who is supposed to be on a religious retreat. They fall in love, virtually overnight and, at the end of the first scene, have decided to meet at the same inn every year for a romantic and sexual interlude. We follow them over the next 25 years as their lives and experiences change with the times. Their experiences are, at once, charming, funny and even tragic but always entertaining.
Nick and Davena are both veterans of the Courtyard Theater. Nick played Judge Turpin in the theater's opening play "Sweeney Todd" while doubling as the play's Stage Manager. Davena played the beggar woman in "Sweeney" and was a stagehand in "A Tuna Christmas", the second production at the Courtyard Theater. Besides being cast in the play, both are involved in the next production "Rent", due to open on March 7th. Nick is already rehearsing the cast as the Musical Director, while Davena will serve as the Stage Manager. Two extremely busy people it would seem.
Nick Buckman has worked with the Courtyard's Artistic Director, Bob Taylor for several years. Nick has years of experience in acting, stage lighting, sound, and set construction. His "official" position at the theater is Technical Director. As an actor, Nick has appeared in "Plaid Tidings" as Mr. Green, in "Clue" the Musical and, working with Bob Taylor in both " Catch Me if You Can" and the Rocky Horror Show" in leading roles.
Davena is a veteran in theater both on the stage and behind the scenes. She performs regularly with the Community Theater League and has also appeared in "Catch Me If You Can". Davena is a soprano and is a mainstay in her church where her lovely voice can be heard on a regular basis.
"I'm her biggest fan", say Lieberman.
"Same Time, Next Year" opens on Friday, February 7th and runs for 2 weekends with performances on Friday and Saturdays at 7:00 PM and matinees on the two Sunday afternoons at 2:00 PM.
