The Lackawanna County Commissioners are honoring a number of groups and individuals for their "Good Work".    Recently honored-Serving Seniors, Inc. is celebrating its 39th anniversary of improving the quality of life and protecting the rights of the elderly in Lackawanna County.  Through the efforts of staff and volunteers, the organization serves over 4,000 individuals annually, utilizing a variety of programs such as guardianship, nursing home volunteer visits, transportation and Ombudsman assistance.

The Lackawanna County Commissioners issued a proclamation to recognize the impact the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute’s 11th annual C.A.S.U.A.L Day has on the fight against colon cancer in our region.  Established by the family of the late Helen Phillips, the event, scheduled for March 27, urges residents to get screened for early detection of colon cancer and also highlights the medical breakthroughs that have saved lives

The Lackawanna County Commissioners presented Eleanor Kerrigan with a proclamation in recognition of her service as President of the Society of Irish Women.  A stellar community volunteer, Ms. Kerrigan is active with St. Joseph’s Summer Festival, Federation of Democratic Women and the men’s and women’s societies of Holy Cross Church.  Prior to her becoming Society President, the Bellevue resident held a number of other offices within the organization.

Richard Barbolish,  , Lackawanna County’s Deputy Director of Emergency Management, completed the training requirements for Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) certification.  Last November, a three-hour exercise was conducted and involved a number of County, area human services and public safety agencies who were charged with handling a number of crisis and natural disaster situations under Mr. Barbolish’s direction.
