Penn State Master Gardener Donna Zagrapan talks about "deadheading".  She says it's the perfect way to keep your garden nice and fresh, by trimming back plants.  Some plants are cut back to keep your garden green, maybe even get a second flush in the fall.  Donna says for flowers like Petunias just use your fingernails and pluck the flower off.
