Lewisburg, Union County- Bucknell visitors who own electric vehicles can now charge their cars right on campus.
Thanks to a donation from Jody and Jennifer Klein P’17, the University in January opened a Tesla-specific station and a two-port ChargePoint station to service other types of electric vehicles.

Located near Academic West, the stations are open to the public. A small fee covers operating and administrative costs for use of the ChargePoint station: $1 for one hour, $2.50 for four hours and $3.50 for six hours. Car owners can check online to see when the charge is complete.

“We charge the same price that you’d pay at home,” plus a 40-cent user fee from ChargePoint, said Dennis Hawley, associate vice president of facilities. Tesla owners may charge their vehicles at no cost, thanks to the generosity of the Kleins.
Both stations use renewable energy drawn from Academic West, a LEED-certified facility that is 100 percent wind powered.
The closest ChargePoint station is located 20 miles north in Muncy, with the nearest Tesla stations located in Hagerstown, Md., and Newark, Del., making Bucknell a much more convenient option for prospective and current parents, alumni and students.
“This is a great example of donor interest matching University needs,” Hawley said.
