The 'Wine Gods' are smiling down on Gregg & Tim Betti, co owners of Capra Collina Winery, as they open their second location in Honesdale. Their new store is right next to Alley Whey Cheese Shoppe, 1023 Main St. Honesdale. They are located across from The Cooperage in Honesdale In Maude Alley. Surrounded by cheese and an art gallery, Capra Collina Winery adds the spice needed in Honesdale.
With décor by Andrea Recene, creator of Aview, the walls and tables are adorned with beautiful artwork. Inspired by the history of Capra Collina Winery, Ms. Recene brought a little bit of Italy to the shoppe.
Capra Collina is rich in history. Named after the original section of Jessup originally populated by Italian immigrants in the early half of the twentieth century, 'Nanny Goat Hill', Capra Collina has been making wine in Jessup since 1894. Very little has changed since the Betti recipe traveled across the Atlantic from the village of Pantana, located in the hills of the Italian Province of Marche. Keeping to such an old recipe is not often heard of these days. Gregg Betti explains, "Family tradition has kept our Capra Collina wines at their finest, no changes are needed. Flavors are added, but they are in line with what our father taught us".
Along with the original recipes, family is also a strong tradition in the winery. With the winery co owned by brothers Gregg and Tim, their sister, Rita Graham, along with other family members, help with the day to day operation. Wine and family is what the Bettis are about.
In addition to wines with names like OMG & Therapy, Capra Collina also carries wine dip mixes, wine soup mixes, and wine bread mixes. With nothing better than a good wine and an aged cheese, Capra Collina Winery is sure to be a hit in Honesdale.
The Grand Opening will be held Saturday, May 3. Regular hours beginning are Tuesday thru Saturday, noon till 6pm and Sunday noon till 4pm.
